A few years ago I pulled a couple of my old high school era bicycles down from the rafters and restored them into modern riders. Where possible I restored and renovated the original components, and in turn 'caught the bug'.
With a mechanical background in fitting and machining, bicycle maintenance and restoration was a great way to keep my skills honed and my hands sharp.
Without realizing I soon became a 'bicycle picker' scouring the local markets, garage sales and curbside clean ups for new projects. I specialize in pre 1990 bicycles with Peugeot, Raleigh and vintage Japanese bicycles being my favorite things to work on.
Not having enough room to keep them all, I began restoring and selling refurbished riders. Keeping the original paintwork and livery is important where possible and it catches the eye of other cycling enthusiasts.
So bicycle restoration is another service I now offer. I have been had restorations commissioned and I am regularly contacted by customers who have purchased bicycles from me to get another ride for family and friends.
An average restoration and build can take anywhere from 10 - 20 hours and I do it after hours so wait time is around 2 months on a custom build. I love networking with other collectors, historians, restoration enthusiasts and knowledgeable bicycle enthusiasts.
So far I have restored over 50 bicycles and you can check out most of them on the Eye of The Survivor blog here. To contact me regarding bicycle history, share ideas or inquire about a custom build hit the button below.
